"When is the cheapest time to book?" is the question our ticketing desk hears most. The honest answer is more useful than the myths — here is how flight pricing from Nigeria actually behaves.

The booking window that works

For international routes from Lagos and Abuja, the sweet spot is typically six to ten weeks before departure. Earlier than that, airlines hold fares steady; much later, cheap booking classes sell out and prices climb steeply. Last-minute bargains are largely a myth on Nigerian routes — demand is too reliable.

Fly when others don't

Midweek departures — Tuesday to Thursday — regularly undercut weekend flights. Avoid the December rush (book by September if you must travel then), Easter week and summer school holidays. January to early March and September to early November are the kindest months to your wallet.

Routing is a price lever

Direct flights command premiums. One well-chosen connection through Istanbul, Doha, Addis Ababa or Cairo can cut fares substantially — and sometimes adds a free stopover city to your trip. Ask about alternative departure airports too: Abuja fares occasionally beat Lagos on the same route.

Ignore the folklore

Clearing cookies does not lower prices; fares live in inventory systems, not your browser. There is no magic midnight booking hour. What does work: fare alerts, flexibility of a day or two either side, and a consultant who can see booking-class availability that public websites do not display.

Protect the fare you find

A good fare is only yours once ticketed. If you need approval time — common for corporate travel — ask us to hold the reservation where the airline allows. And weigh change flexibility against price: the cheapest ticket with brutal change fees can become the most expensive one you ever bought.
